2 Week Check

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Dear Sugar,

It has been two whole weeks and I wish I could say that I missed you, but I actually feel great. I feel myself growing stronger. Instead of eating you for breakfast I have a power packed smoothie full of fruit and spinach. It's delicious. When people at work offer me store bought cookies and brownies I turn them down. I let you find your final resting place in somewhere else. My energy levels have tripled. I no longer wake up in a sleepy daze. When the alarm rings at 7am I am ready to go. I have been motivated to work out. Zumba is my favorite. Eating well + working out = plenty of energy to accomplish whatever I want. I think that this break up has been for the best.

Hope you're doing well,
Harley

Hiding from SUGAR!

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Over the last two weeks my diet has consisted of:

Gummies
Danish Desserts
Diet Coke
Fast Food (Chipotle and Panda express... I love you)
Cheese.
Trader Joes peanut butter cups
Cookies
Peanut M&M's

and that is pretty much it. I forget what healthy delicious food tastes like.
Which brings me to this week.
A new year is upon us. The perfect time to make a goal and accomplish it.

If you have read the blog for a while you may remember a couple of times when Jane and I have decided to give up sugar for an extended period of time. It works I tell you! The first three days are the hard, but then I realize that I feel SO. MUCH. BETTER and it gets so much easier. It is easier to wake up in the morning. Easier to go work out.

I never realized how often people offer you delicious treats until I consciously decided to avoid them. Let me tell you... all those little intakes of sugar add up fast.

So here we go. Jane is on board and so am I.
Harley and Jane humbly ask you to join us in our 3rd sugar fast.
Starting today

NO SWEETS UNTIL FEB. 14th!

Now let me add a disclaimer. When we say sugar we mean sweet treats like cookies, brownies, candy, cake, pastries, etc. Not natural sugar in fruit or sugar in bread. We love bread.

It is much easier to stay on the bandwagon it someone is doing it with you.
This I know from experience. Whenever I feel tempted I always text Jane and say, "TELL ME IT'S NOT WORTH IT!" and she does and some how that makes it a little bit easier to pass up.
So join us! Come one come all!

If you are committed... LINK IT UP! Then we can support each other!

NO SUGAR

Monday, May 2, 2011

I plan on starting today....

WHO'S WITH ME?!

You may remember when Jane and I did this before. I have to say that it was an awesome success. As I sat on the couch this evening eating the remainder of my Girl Scout cookies I thought, "This has to stop."

And thus it begins again. 30 days. No sugar.

We will refrain from eating cookies, brownies, ice cream, cake, candy, pie, and anything else of those varieties officially starting right now.

{Just because we did not mention something specifically does not mean that you can eat it. Use your best judgement and stay away from junk food snacks filled with sugar.}

When people offer you these treats you, in the most polite way, say, "Oh sorry dear! I am not eating sugar this month. Me and a bunch of my friends are doing it and I couldn't possibly let them down!"

See. USE US AS YOUR EXCUSE. You always feel bad when people make delicious stuff and then you have to say no. Why? Because #1 it tastes so good and #2 it makes you feel guilty to turn down freshly baked goods. So instead... just blame us. We are totally willing to have your back for this one.

WE CAN DO IT. Join us on this adventure and you won't regret it.

Today is May 2nd ladies. Let the games begin.

Let them eat cake!

Yesterday was our beloved reader/roommates birthday.
{she is the one that made us start this little blog}
She is obsessed with Disney, Ben Barnes, and all things chocolate.
We celebrated the momentous occasion with Cupcakes and Frappes.
Killer way to start the week if you ask me.
Jane and I are going to start no sugar again soon.

Ramblings About a Love Affair

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

I have a love affair with food.
And we all know love affairs aren't typically the healthiest kind of relationship, no?

Perhaps I shouldn't spill my deeper thoughts about food, but then again, maybe someone can relate. I think about it all the time; I'm always thinking about what delicious thing I'll eat next; I crave some things constantly. Sunday journal reflections all too often turn into a list of things I want to eat {as I sit in church with a growling stomach}.

Silly tummy.

One sunny, sparkly afternoon Harley and I were on the beach in Italy. It was perfectly perfect, and naturally, we fell asleep. I, however, napped rather fitfully. I couldn't fall asleep because all I really wanted to do, was eat. More specifically, eat margherita pizza from the charming little restaurant a stone's throw from where I was.

It's kind of a terrible picture, but I needed to put a tribute to the reason I came home a few pounds more.
Here's to you, Italian pizza. Infinite xoxo's.
Of course, how can anyone blame me? I was in Italy for the love of carbs. No one can help dreaming about the irresistible, thin-crusted loveliness.

But what about now? No justification for dreaming of food.

Therefore, this sugar fast is good for me, I believe. Teaching me a bit of self restraint.

And there are my food rambles for the day.

P.S. This week I've been craving...chocolate walnut pie, English muffin toast with raspberry jam, peanut butter, the bread from Carrabba's, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon Chex, oatmeal cake, my mama's brownies, and...pizza. Always pizza.

xoxo

Casual Thursday? I know most of you are reading this on Friday... but we think this idea may have to stick around. It is like celebrating that the weekend has almost made it.

Can you say spring! Huzzah. It is about time.
Today Jane and I thought we would go get a tanning pass for a month. I know I know bad idea because of skin cancer and all that jazz. Well guess what? A tanning pass is going to cost you at LEAST $45. Who knew that all these bronze beautiful people were dishing out that much dough every month in order to look a little bit brown. I sure didn't. I don't run with anyone from that crowd haha. I guess I'll just have to wait for the summer like normal people do. Blessing in disguise? Possibly.

Oh and p.s. fish sandwiches from JCW's are the best.
That is what we eat now instead of ice cream.
Awesome.

Skirts for Two. No we didn't plan this.

Harley here.
Outfit post for today contains a few little surprises at the end.
Hope your weekend is off to a great start. Ours is!

Have I mentioned that Jane is gorgeous? Every picture is good. Every. Single. One.
I on the other hand... tend to struggle.
Why am I such an awkward person!

Yeah... I'll work on this whole posing thing.
*this shoot was taken at the end of the day. you try sitting at a desk all day and not having a wrinkly skirt*

AND NOW. Here are two out takes from out shoot. Bloopers some would say. Notice Jane's blooper is due to the fact that the camera settings are off. SHE STILL LOOKS GORGEOUS. Mine on the other hand... well look for yourself haha...

WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING!
*Boy says that I look like a hunchback, a cute hunchback, but a hunchback nonetheless. *
Do any of you has issues like this too???
Please don't tell me that I am the only one.

P.S. Today I went to Olive Garden. Please do yourself a favor and go. It's totally worth it. And no I didn't even eat the chocolate mint at the end.
HUZZAH.

Do you know what today is??

It's National Pancake Day.
Sometimes I love pancakes almost as much as I love pizza.
Except for when I eat too many. This has never happened with pizza, I'm happy to report. I'll post about pizza another day.
Since we're not eating sugar, and since Harley doesn't even make the smallest exceptions {thank goodness}, I made this little purchase last night so we could participate in the pancake-eating festivities.
Sugar-free syrup.
We're still going strong,
are you?

xoxo
Jane.

We'll just call it Wedding week.

Monday, February 28, 2011

Last week was a week of weddings I tell you.
Not that I went to any.
But Jane and I went to a lot of wedding-ish activities.
For me the week consisted of 2 bridal showers and 1 wedding reception.
For Jane it included 1 bridal shower and 2 receptions.
What can we say?
Maybe we are a smidge popular. But not a lot.

Brial Shower #1:

Wedding Reception #1:

Bridal Shower #2:
At this Bridal shower I was the designated photographer. My friend Taylor threw the loveliest Tea Party Shower for her friend Amber. We were all in heaven with the quaint decor and proceeded to call Taylor Martha Stewart for the remainder of the evening.
And you may be wondering... did you cave and eat any cupcakes or cake balls?
Answer.
I STAYED STONG LADIES.
and you can too :)

If you want to see pictures of wedding Reception #2 you are going to have ask Jane. I'm sure she would love to oblige you.
It is a good thing that I like weddings SINCE ALL OF MY FRIENDS ARE GETTING MARRIED.
Exaggeration? Yes. Accept me.
Happy Monday all.

love,
Harley

Day 3.

The reese's pieces easter egg in my backpack is torturing me.
Only 27 days to go.
How are you holding up?

Hiding From a Friend Called SUGAR.

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Among other current obsessions, Harley & I have have a little baby problem with things like this:

And this...
Maybe these too...
We save recipes, bake for friends and anyone else who will eat them, dream about them {I speak for myself on that one}, and basically...love anything with sugar.

Problem.

Solution. No sugar for 30 days. More specifically, no junk food sugar {see photos above}. We're still eating things like jam and pita chips {ohmyheck have you tried the pita chips from Costco?!}. Personally I think it's easier to have a simple excuse to turn down every turtle brownie, maple doughnut, and gooey chocolate chip cookie held up to my nose.

"No thank you. I'm avoiding sugar for 30 days."

February 23rd to March 23rd. Today is Day 1.

We're in. How 'bout you?
xoxo

I found all the photos on google and claim none of them as my own. I promise to remember attributions next time!
