Daphne van den Heuvel puts her love of stripes to work in this series of fashion illustrations. Along the way, she teaches us a bit about the history of this striking, classic pattern. Apparently stripes were used to clothe sailors and prisoners because of their anti-camouflage nature. If a sailor ended up overboard or a prisoner went on the lam, the stripes would allow them to stand out and be found.
