Katherine is awesome.

Hi, Lovelies. It's our pleasure today to present Katherine, who has prepared a fabulously inspiring post about thrifting.
Enjoy.

Hey there Harley and Jane readers!
I'm super excited to be posting here today!
I've met Harley in person and she is the bee's knees.
We had so much fun together.

Anyway, I'm Katherine from thrifted things!
My blog is all about clothing. Mostly of which I thrift.
Today I wanted to share with you some tips about thrifting.

1. Try EVERYTHING and ANYTHING on!
When I go thrifting, I grab a cart and anything I see that has any form of potential, I throw into my cart. I hardly ever get everything I throw in there, but you always need to try it on and see what could happen! I love grabbing grandma dresses with a nice floral print. You know why? Because I'll rip that sucker apart and make it into something! Just because it might look grannyish now doesn't mean you can't make it hip and fresh. Trust me, you'll be surprised by what you can find and do.

2. Size does not matter.
When you go thrifting, look in all size categories. Just because you may be a Medium and it says Large, try it on! Seriously, it doesn't matter what size it is as long as you like it and you like how you look in it! I repeat: Size doesn't say anything.

3. Get your money's worth.
I often go to thrift stores and buy things that are huge on me. Therefore I take the extra fabric and make other things. For instance take this dress:

This dress was then made into:

4. Check out the mens/boys section.
I don't know about you guys, but I LOVE flannels and button ups. And the men's section definitely fills this fancy of mine. They have tons and tons of these! Plus while your there, check out the belts and look for suspenders. Ohhh and look for ties! You can make headband out of them. If you want to know how, go here!

5. Fix it up.
Sometimes you might find something that you just die over but it might be too big or too long or has a stain. Don't fret my friends! These are easy fixes. Find your mom or grandma and ask them to hem it for you or take it in or hid the stain with a cute broach! And if you don't have a mom or grandma that sew, pick up a needle and thread and try it yourself! You might be a master seamstress and you didn't even know it! Or, you could move to Rexburg, Idaho and I could fix it for you :)

I hope this helps you and your treasure searching!

Thanks Harley and Jane!
Good luck getting married Harley :)

Today we are sharing some thrifty tips from this fancy lady. She thrifts. She blogs. She Crafts. And she does it all so very well.
Enjoy!

1. Be purposeful.
Don't go to the thrift store just thinking something will hit you over the face and yell at you to take it home. Everything in thrift stores looks like use clothes, so in order to find things you like before you go make a list, a specific list and then as you look at things go through your list.
2. Don't let the mass overwhelm you.
Thrift stores are really really big and when you're first learning to thrift store shop in can seem overwhelming. Instead of trying to take on the whole entire thousans of racks pick something specific you want to look at like dresses, belts or shoes. This can kinda ease you into thrift store shopping and still allow you to look in depth.
3. Look for quality
Something may be cute but if it has nasty armpit stains or a snag in it you're not going to like how it looks on you. Make sure it doesn't look worn and also look at the brand and material to make sure you're getting a quality item.
4. Look for timelessness
There have been times where I come home with a bright yellow poncho and think, "what the heck was I thinking?" Things will always be tempting at the thrift store because their so cheap but don't buy it just because it's cheap. Make sure it's something that is classic and is still and will be in style for a long time.
5. Wear your comfies
You'll be changing in and out of your clothes A TON so make sure you wear something that's comfy an easy to slip in and out of. I know it sounds dumb but my experiences are totally different when I'm comfy, my usual is a pair of flats, some jeggings and a comfy t shirt.
6. Call your thrift store!
There are some days that thrift stores specifically put out new items. To avoid having a picked over store just give them a call and ask them when they restock!
7. Don't get discouraged!
There have been times where I leave the thrift store completely empty handed and others when I leave with pure gold. If you don't find something when you go don't let it get you down, it's totally normal. Go get yourself an ice cream cone to cheer ya up and get back in the game!
