5 tips for journaling

Thursday, January 10, 2013

1. don't back track. start writing about what happened TODAY-- or just a few minutes ago.

2. sign up for (or buy) every free magazine you can. i often flip through anthropologie, restoration hardware, and nylon for inspiration. tear out pictures and tape them in. make mood pages. copy different fonts you find. it helps get the creative juices flowing.

3. everything doesn't have to be perfect. i often misspell words. just cross them out and move on. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TEAR THE PAGE OUT. mistake give a journal character. it makes you human. (see this post for the lovely picture i drew of a starbucks cup... lets just say my artistic talent is limited.)

4. buy a pen that you like. and when i say "a" pen i mean like 10. i love the pilot G-2 0.38 pens.

5. if you feel like you have nothing to say-- write, with a pen on paper, i have nothing to say. odds are you probably do have something to say.

  1. I agree on the writing in the "NOW". I used to try to backtrack but it's no use...

  3. "le pen"s are my favorite. Even though they are like 5 bucks a pen, I can't stop buying them.
