Why I Love The Titanic

Saturday, April 14, 2012

Have you ladies watched this recently? There's a good possibility I've seen it two or three times in the last seven days, and I'm so anxious to see it in 3D on Saturday with my sister. I know it's gotten slack for the unrealistic love story, but who cares about the skeptics. I choose to be hopelessly in love with Rose and Jack.

{Spoiler alert...}

Let's discuss the reasons I love and other important parts.

via.

1. Leo. The heartthrob of fourth grade. My friends and I had black and white posters we xeroxed for each other and smeared with our lipstick kisses. But still, STILL, I want to be the one hand-in-hand with him, running around the Titanic on a grand adventure, energized with passion and excitement of blushing love.

2. The size of that boat blows my mind. I've never been on a cruise, or anything that large actually, and I honestly can only imagine how magical it was.

via.

3. Her wardrobe. Lacey and Victorian and wonderful. Always regal. Rose is supposedly only 17, by the way. Wowie wow wow.

4. The scene where Jack and Rose meet under less-than-ideal circumstances and he convinces her to come back over the railing with raw, rogue charm.

5. Let's talk about that charm. Sister and I decided one of the reasons he's so desirable and perfect for Rose is because he's street smart. He knows how to hold an axe. He's prepared when the whirlpool of the ship sucks them underwater. He knows they need to stay on the boat as long as they can to decrease the time they're in the water. He knows about how cold the water is, plus or minus a few degrees. Get the idea?

6. This exchange between the lovers:
"Where to, Miss?"
"To the stars."

7. One passenger quotes scripture as the boat is sinking. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death," he says with his face turned upward.
And then my eyes tear up once more.

8. On the spiritual note...the brave orchestra men. They stick around. And their final song is "Nearer My God to Thee." I die a little every time they do that one.

9. Cora. She's strung here and there throughout the movie, and she and Jack have such a sweet, understated relationship. Cute.

10. This scene. Do you need me to explain further?

to do list

Friday, April 13, 2012

The final exam rush begins.

I'm relieved I no longer have a schedule entirely made of GE courses {American heritage, biology, geology, astronomy} because those were darn hard. Poor sister has all of those, but I keep telling her college gets better each semester. Maybe not easier, but at least bearable.

So let's see...
Here's the to do list I've got for the next few days:
  • business write up
  • turn in business write up
  • give money to Elizabeth
  • hot yoga
  • deposit the check that's been sitting in my car for 2 months
  • push ups
  • study for religion test {200 questions -- whaaa?}
  • study for business test
  • finish editing final
  • turn in editing final
  • go to Logan on Saturday
  • plan road trip with sister {Grand Canyon, here we come!}
  • watch Titanic 3-D
  • watch The Hunger Games {again...}
  • get sushi
  • write that letter
  • buy the art journal e-course

Rwar's Little Facts.

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

 Today we have some little facts.
But before that. Here are some pretty pictures.
Just because we love you.

Little Facts

Harley.
1. The Body. I really believe that each woman has her own unique shape. For me it always seems that unless I am being crazy with work outs and eating that I generally always end up the same weight and size. I have now grown to love it and really appreciate all the good my body does for me. Just be healthy. Stay active for 30 mins a day. Eat fruits and veggies sometimes, but also eat french fries! The moral of this story is APPRECIATE your body. Be happy with your differences because as soon as you start embracing who you are others will too.
2. Peeve. People. Picking. Their. Nose. That is all I can say.
3. Allergy. GRASS. I love the way you feel on my feet, but you make me so very itchy.

Jane.
1. The Body. Once in high school art class I created a drawing that compared the body of a woman to an animal skull and a cello. They actually imitate each other, believe it or not.
2. Peeve. Stepping in something wet or sticky with socks on. Especially wet.
3. Allergy. I never used to have allergies, but this year I do. It took me a month of a runny nose and sneezing to realize I probably wasn't sick...

joy-triggers

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Sometimes I wake up in the darkness of the early morning and feel the weight of the world sitting on my chest. I pull my quilt up to my chin and squeeze my eyes shut, trying to escape the heavy feelings of loneliness that hover over me. Unfortunately, it's usually not until the sun rises and I'm walking and talking and surrounded by cheerful students that the cloud dissipates.

It doesn't happen often, and still I don't know what triggers the darkness I feel. I'm sure I'm not the only one though, and thinking about it, I remembered an article I read.

A week or two ago, Meg posted this on her blog. It may possibly change my life.

She writes about joy-triggers -- the tiny things in life that bring a smile to her face. I like the idea of focusing on small things that really matter, instead of letting the weight of the world pull me down on those hard days.

"It's not enough to be productive, it's not enough to be successful, I need my joy triggers. Joy triggers are not rational. Bring them into your daily life, because I really believe that ... it's all a part of how we can bring balance into our life... getting joy from simple (but beautiful) things -- scents and sights and tastes." Arianna Huffington

Mine?

The sweet juice from honeysuckle. My mom's baguettes. Recognizing a constellation in the night sky. Vanilla frappachinos from Starbucks. My car's seat warmers {or as my little sister calls them, "heat seaters"}. Acorns. Woodsmoke. Perfume. Feathers. Sending a letter through the post. Waking up with my hair looking tamely tousled enough to not get out the hot tools. Reruns of The Office. Good eyelash days. Zumba.

Now tell me...

What are yours?
