sister style: a navy toggle coat

i get to see my sister in 20 days. YES. doesn't she just have the cutest style? i have loved featuring her over that last couple of months. see more of her outfits here, here, and here. 

you may be wondering, "but harley-- why don't you take outfit pictures anymore?" well my dear readers, the answer to that is because Chicago has been about zero degrees. however, michael and i were able to sneak out on sunday and lets just say-- they don't call this the windy city for nothing. look for those bad boys tomorrow.

sister style: aztec scarf and red pants

my sister and i both got this scarf for christmas this year. my family started a tradition where everyone draws a name, gets 20 dollars, and then runs into target and has to buy something for the person they picked, but you can't let the other person see. it has to be a surprise. 

it was HILARIOUS and fun. everyone was giving us the weirdest looks. probably because we were running around and hiding behind shelves. 

my sister and i walked into target together and both saw this scarf. michael had caity's name so i told sneakily told him to buy her the scarf. 

when we went to open the family presents later that night i got the scarf too! it turned out that caity had told my mom that i liked it as well. so we are scarfy twins.

sister style: the woodland nymph

nymph: any of the minor divinities of nature in classical mythology represented as beautiful maidens dwelling in the mountains, forests, trees, and waters

i am quite convinced that my sister was a woodland fairy in another life. she is humble and quite. the great observer. the one content to get her hands dirty. the one that animals flock to. 

we found this location in portland. we felt like we had been transported to our own personal shire. the green that can only be found in those lovely western states bounded by the ocean.  

i am proud of these pictures. i can see my photography improving. the need for post processing is diminishing as i learn to maneuver the manual settings.

This is my lovely sister Caity modeling three different ways to wear a polka dot skirt. I think the first roadblock when styling patterns is the urge to be so matchy matchy. Initially when seeing this skirt I thought, "Try a white button down!" -- I had to hold myself back. I have learned that you just have to treat the pattern like it's neutral.  Throw caution to the wind! Look at OUTFIT 2// polka dots and plaid! I am already thinking of the fun spring florals we can put with this skirt in a couple months. 

Hope this inspires some of you to mix and match some of your patterned pieces.
